EXTRA STAGE! v1.20 released!


We released a huge update for SPITFIRE Paradise, featuring a harder 3 minute EXTRA STAGE and a host of cosmetic and quality-of-life changes!

Major changes:

  • Added Extra Stage, a challenging 3 minute stage with several system changes:
    • Remixed enemies in greater numbers and with tougher patterns
    • Player shot is buffed to kill groups of small enemies easier
    • Filling the bomb gauge now clears bullets
    • Multiplier cap is increased to 200.0x
    • Tick points are disabled
  • Added options screen
  • Added quick restart key while paused (R on keyboard, back/select on gamepad)
  • Buffed bombs
  • Fixed player shooting slower than intended on some systems, fixing DPS issues with those systems
  • Multiple cosmetic upgrades across the board
  • Revamped leaderboard screen
  • Scores are now submitted before seeing the leaderboard

Enemy changes:

  • Fixed mech enemies being able to shoot when the player is to the right of them
  • Fixed mech enemies having an incorrect sprite pivot
  • Fixed safe spot with Original Stage’s final boss
  • Replaced certain enemy bullet sprites
    • However, as all bullets have the same hitbox shape and size they are functionally the same

Gameplay UI changes:

  • Added a high score counter
  • Added digit separators to score popoffs
  • Added fade effect when player is near any HUD elements
  • Added interpolation effect to score text when multiplier is active
  • Added visual indicator for when a bomb will explode
  • Fixed game over message playing repeatedly
  • Fixed incorrect timer placement in non-16:9 aspect ratios
  • Fixed timer occasionally displaying bad values in the last group
  • Increased number of digits shown on the timer
  • Repositioned several elements
  • Tweaked score popoff size to scale with current multiplier, if active

Player changes:

  • Added audio cue for attempting to use a bomb without full gauge
  • Buffed bombs
    • Bombs explode sooner
    • Using a bomb grants invulnerability before, during, and after its usage
  • Fixed being able to perform any action while the game is paused or loading
  • Fixed player’s rate of fire being affected negatively by system performance
  • Horizontal movement can no longer cross the enemy invulnerability deadzone
  • Replaced bomb sprite
  • Replaced hurtbox animation
  • Replaced idle animation

Scoring changes:

  • Fixed being able to gain points from items after time runs out
  • Fixed being able to gain tick points after time runs out

Miscellany:

  • Added glow effects to several objects
  • Added randomization to explosion sound effect pitches
  • Added smoke effects to explosions
  • Added spawn effects to bullets
  • Adjusted enemy damage flash effect
  • Adjusted multiple sprite layers to improve overall visibility
  • Fixed bullet-clearing effects also affecting player bullets
  • Fixed bullet sprites being invisible for 1 frame
  • Fixed cloud sprites randomly clipping over other clouds of the same size
  • Fixed enemy sprites sometimes briefly facing the wrong way upon spawning
  • Fixed loading transition effect randomly stuttering
  • Fixed main menu transitioning into itself when pressing the menu button
  • Fixed several enemy idle animations missing a frame
  • Improved background parallax
  • Increased leaderboard size to 25 entries
  • Optimized bullets to use only one gameobject instead of two
  • Removed transition effects from menu navigation
  • Replaced bullet impact sprites
  • Replaced bullet spawn sprites
  • Replaced certain bullet sprites
  • Replaced certain fonts
  • Replaced certain sound effects
  • Replaced explosion sprites
  • Scores are now submitted before seeing the leaderboard
  • Tweaked bullets that constantly rotate their sprite to initially face their target rather than start at a random angle
