v2.00: Post-Shmup Fest Relay Update!


KARASU MELTDOWN has been updated to version v2.00!

This update contains numerous changes across the board, including:

  • Adding a separate focused shot for the player
  • Adding voice lines by ChairGTables to the player
  • Changing leaderboard systems, increasing the number of scores saved and adding web build support
  • Countless visual tweaks
  • Rebalances for the player and enemies
  • Replacing the old bitrate-destroying 2D background with a new 3D background by plunch
  • Tweaked enemy spawn timing, especially in regards to bosses
  • Various parts of the game now operate on a fixed timestep, improving consistency
  • Various scoring system tweaks, namely allowing more hits to be gained mid-chain

Due to the nature of some of these changes, both local and online high scores have been reset!

  • Added tighter focused shot while focused
  • Added voiceovers to the player
  • Added warning on HUD when on last life
  • Adjusted certain enemy spawn timings to be faster
  • Bombs now explode as soon as their center touches the edge of the screen instead of slightly farther than the edge
  • Bosses no longer wait for the current wave of non-cat enemies to die or leave before spawning
  • Bullets now run on a fixed timestep
  • Chain counter and timer no longer changes color while frozen by a boss
  • Enabled texture filtering for various sprites
  • Enemy attack patterns now run on a fixed timestep
  • Fixed enemies taking damage after a game over
  • Fixed intro/outro messages not staying vertically centered
  • Fixed jittery bomb, camera, and player movement at high framerates
  • Green and gold items are now slightly transparent
  • Increased bomb impact and splash damage radius
  • Increased player unfocused move speed
  • Increased size of small and medium crow and fly enemies
  • Max level bombs now last until they touch the edge of the screen
  • Nerfed medium crow and fly enemy patterns
  • Recolored crow and fly enemies
  • Recolored explosion sprites
  • Redrew certain visual effects
  • Reduced amount of time crow and fly enemies wait before spawning
  • Reduced amount of time large enemies idle before leaving
  • Reduced crow enemy (wave variant) move speed
  • Reduced lifetime of non-max level bombs
  • Reduced music volume
  • Reduced player shot limit to 3
  • Reduced screen shake
  • Replaced the 2D stage background with a 3D stage background
  • Reworked leaderboard:
    • Added highlighting of own score
    • Increased capacity to top 1000
    • Web build can now post scores
  • Reworked scoring system:
    • Active bombs now directly award energy while cancelling bullets and damaging enemies
    • Adjusted amount of items dropped by enemies
    • Base gold value is now capped to 100,000 regardless of hit count
    • Bullets cancelled by an active bomb (not the explosion) no longer spawn green items
    • Chain timer now runs on a fixed timestep
    • Increased chain time gained from small crow and fly enemies
    • Increased extend threshold to every 100,000,000 points
    • Kills from shots during a chain now adds hits
    • Reduced chain timer duration to 2.5 seconds
    • Reduced energy gain from items and shots
    • Score gained from gold is now multiplied by the size of gold picked up (x1, x3, x5)
  • Stage timer now runs on a fixed timestep
  • Taking damage now shakes the HUD instead of the entire screen
  • Tweaked appearance of gold value at max value
  • Tweaked appearance of hit count at max hits
  • Tweaked appearance of life counter above 10 lives
  • Tweaked appearance of score counter when on personal best or world record pace
