v1.2.0: Scoring and Balance Changes!


Bootleg Soldier Azure: ASTRAL RAVE has been updated to v1.2.0!

This update features numerous changes across the board, including:

  • Scoring system changes, namely faster multiplier gain, bigger combo bonuses, and a rework to gold
  • Keyboard and gamepad support for navigating menus
  • Bomb and death explosion adjustments
  • Enemy attack pattern and health adjustments
  • Countless fixes and other minor adjustments

The nature of this update’s changes means that local scores have been reset and online scores are on a new leaderboard!

  • Added full keyboard and partial gamepad menu navigation
  • Added highlighting of own score on the leaderboard
  • Added option to toggle bullet trails
  • Added pre-boss warning animation
  • Added resurrection extend text popup separate from the normal extend text popup
  • Adjusted bomb gauge appearance
  • Adjusted boss attack patterns
  • Adjusted boss health phase transition thresholds

  • Adjusted gamepad bindings to increase compatibility with arcade stick layouts
    • Shot is now bound to A and Y
    • Bomb is now bound to X and B
    • Focus is now bound to both bumpers and triggers

  • Adjusted life counter appearance when dead while out of lives
  • Adjusted medium helicopter enemy attack patterns
  • Adjusted results screen formatting
  • Adjusted scoring system:
    • Adjusted enemy score values, most notably:
      • Blimps enemies in caravan mode are worth much less to account for being chainable
      • Bosses in both game modes and blimp enemies in story mode are worth more to account for not being chainable
      • Car enemies are worth less
    • Certain enemies now cause screen-wide bullet cancels that turn bullets into gold
    • Combo bonuses are now affected by the multiplier
    • Decreased amount of chain timer awarded from kills
    • Gold value is now based on the new gold counter and is no longer affected by the multiplier
    • Increased duration of combo timer
    • Multiplier gain from x3.2 to x6.4 is now as fast as the gain from 1.0x to 3.2x
    • Replaced the kill counter with a gold counter that is now used in all modes instead of just caravan mode
  • Adjusted sound effect volume levels
  • Adjusted spawn timing of bosses in story mode
  • Decreased amount of bomb energy gained from bullet cancel items
  • Decreased duration of player’s death animation
  • Decreased duration of player’s i-frames
  • Decreased health of blimp enemies in caravan mode
  • Decreased range of bullet-cancelling effects
  • Fixed bad menu sidebars in ultrawide aspect ratios
  • Fixed being able to advance dialogue while game over’d
  • Fixed being able to resurrect out of a game over after the game over message appears
  • Fixed bombs sometimes causing either no or multiple combo bonuses to be awarded
  • Fixed boss music playing instead of stage music when continuing during a midboss
  • Fixed caravan stage timer running during a game over
  • Fixed combo bonuses being able not register fast enough before the results screen appears
  • Fixed combo sometimes not dropping when saving a nearly broken combo with a bomb
  • Fixed diagonal movement on gamepad being slower and normalized instead of faster and unnormalized like on keyboard
    • The nature of this fix causes the analog stick to now behave like a digital input rather than an analog input (ie: you will move at full speed regardless of how much the stick is tilted and can only move 8 ways)
  • Fixed dialogue boxes being less responsive at high framerates
  • Fixed duplicate air enemy waves spawning after the caravan stage midboss
  • Fixed leaderboard briefly displaying the wrong leaderboard when switching to a different one
  • Fixed pausing immediately after starting a game causing the music to not play
  • Fixed quick restart not working on gamepad
  • Fixed score counter gradient not resetting when continuing
  • Fixed stage 1 and caravan stage part 1 ground enemy clipping issues
  • Fixed stage 1 music playing when continuing during stage 2
  • Fixed stage 2 duplicate overlapping ground enemies
  • Fixed stage intro/outro text scaling badly with non-16:9 aspect ratios
  • Fixed “you died” game over message being able to appear during “time up” game over message
  • Increased damage of bomb direct hits
  • Increased damage of death explosions
  • Increased health of blimp enemies in story mode
  • Increased health of bosses
  • Increased time gained from the midboss in caravan mode
  • Made air enemies able to spawn while player is dead
  • Made air enemies after the caravan stage midboss start spawning sooner
  • Made air enemies at the beginning of the caravan stage start spawning sooner
  • Made blimp enemies drop large gold
  • Made blimp enemies in caravan mode able to leave if left alive for too long
  • Made blimp enemies in caravan mode no longer drop extra lives
  • Made bosses drop bomb energy items on phase transition
  • Made caravan stage bosses spawn regardless of if there are other air enemies onscreen
  • Made caravan stage bosses use all of their attacks instead of their first attack
  • Made caravan stage timer freeze during time extensions
  • Made ground enemies on easy mode not attack
  • Made mouse cursor invisible and unlocked at all times
  • Made player movement normalized when focused
    • Only when actually pressing the focus button; being slowed down by charging a bomb will not do this but holding focus while doing so will
  • Removed mouse menu navigation
